Rock & Recovery with Inductee Ricky Byrd, formally of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

12 p.m. - 4 p.m. Free event featuring music, mindfullness, storytelling and support for those in recovery along with their family, friends and loved ones. 

12:00pm - Song Writers Cirlce 

  • Byrd will be joined by Michael Des Barres of Power Station and current SiruisXM DJ on Little Steven's Underground Garage, Liberty DeVitto, drummer on over 150 million records sold and a part of Billy Joel’s recording and touring band, and Paul Ill, studio bassist who has worked with everyone from Tina Turner to P!nk. The group will have an intimate conversation about songwriting and perform songs that address both addiction and the recovery process.

2:00pm - (In)Dependent: The Heroin Project

  • Presented by Akron Civic Theatre's Millenial Theatre Project

2:30pm - Meditation and sound for mindfulness with Dawn Witt Schroeder 

  • Dawn is a an experienced yoga teacher at Inner Bliss Yoga, founder of Pranaverdana.com for vibrant living, and a sound healing enthusiast.

3:00pm - Live Music

  • The Labra Brothers

The day’s activities are presented in partnership with Recovery Resources and Rock & Recovery (91.3 The Summit).

Recovery Resources, a Cleveland nonprofit community-base behavioral healthcare organization that helps people triumph over mental illness, alcoholism, drug and other addictions, will be present with activities and educational materials.

Hall of Famer Ricky Byrd, founder of the non-profit Clean Getaway, recently released his newest album, Clean Getaway, a collection of 12 songs evoking the intricacies and emotions behind addiction and recovery. For the past five years, Byrd has led recovery music groups in various treatment and detox facilities across the country. This has inspired him to give away copies of his new record to those who have completed recovery programs.
