Recovery Resources is an approved provider of continuing education through the Ohio Counselor, Social Work and Marriage Family Therapist Board for social workers (RSX069001) and counselors (RCX029002), the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board (50-17857) and the National Council on Problem Gambling (06/653). Many trainings are also available for nursing and health education CEUs. Our continuing education program offers credits for the following types of professionals.

All trainings offered below will be held virtually via webinar.  After you register, you will receive an email with a link to the webinar that you can add to your calendar.  Pre-registration is required and will be open up to the day before the training.

Clinical Supervision Series

The clinical supervision series is designed to meet the criteria set out by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board for counselors seeking their supervisory designation. Participating in all four courses will meet the Board’s educational requirement for counselors. A discount is provided for participating in all four courses. However, these are stand alone courses and participation in all four courses is not required. 6 supervision CEU’s will be provided for each course.

Assessment, Evaluation & Remediation: Tools for Effective Clinical Supervision

Fridays, February 9th & August 16th | 9-4:00pm | 6 CEUs | Cost $100

This training will cover topics of assessment and evaluation of a supervisee's overall knowledge, skills, and self-awareness. The course will include opportunities to practice using formal and informal evaluation tools to aid the supervisee in skill attainment and enhancement. 

Attending to Counselor Development within the Clinical Supervision Relationship

Fridays, March 15th & September 20 | 9-4:00pm | 6 CEUs | Cost $100

This training will cover models of clinical supervision with a focus on counselor development. The course will include practice and application of supervision and learning models to enhance supervisee development. 

Management & Administrative Aspects of Clinical Supervision

Fridays, April 19th & October 25th | 9-4:00pm | 6 CEUs | Cost $100

This training will aid in developing appropriate processes & procedures related to management & administrative aspects of clinical supervision. Participants will practice appropriate documentation, reporting processes, & supervision skills that will enhance their ability to engage in the management & administrative aspects of clinical supervision. 

Legal, Ethical and Professional Responsibilities Related to Clinical Supervision

Fridays, May 17th & November 15th | 9-4:00pm | 6 CEUs | Cost $100

This training includes a review of the legal and ethical issues associated with clinical supervision. Participants will have an opportunity to learn the rules, laws, and ethics associated with the responsibility of clinical supervision.

Case Management and Helping Professional Series

This series is designed for case managers and those newer to the helping profession. The series addresses the basic competencies for Qualified Behavioral Health Specialists. All attendees will receive a certificate of participation. The series includes: Professional Boundaries; Understanding Mental Health Signs and Symptoms; Professional Communication; Clinical Documentation and Medical Necessity; Treatment Resources and Coordinating with the Treatment Team and Multiple Systems; and Vicarious Trauma and Self-Care. 

*Please note these are NOT CEU trainings. No CEUs are available for these trainings.  A discount is provided for participating in all six courses. However, these are standalone courses and participation in all six courses is not required.

Professional Boundaries

Fridays, January 26th & August 2nd | 11-12:00pm | Cost $10

Balancing compassion and professionalism can be hard. In this presentation attendees will learn about strategies for showing care and compassion to those with mental health concerns while protecting their own wellbeing. It is possible to balance our desire to help with empowering instead of enabling and this interactive presentation will provide attendees a chance to ask about their real-life dilemmas.

Understanding Mental Health Signs and Symptoms

Fridays, March 1st & August 30th | 11-12:00pm | Cost $10

It can be difficult to know when the actions of others are choices or symptoms of mental health struggles. In this presentation attendees will learn about common mental health disorders and symptoms. We will also address stigma and how we in the helping profession can work to reduce stigma and promote those with mental health concerns getting the help they need.

Professional Communication

Fridays, March 29th & September 27th | 11-12:00pm | Cost $10

As helping professionals communication is vital. Both verbal and written communication can make the difference between those with mental health concerns getting the help they need or not. In this presentation we will identify concrete strategies to speak with other helping professionals in a clear and concise way as well as strategies for communicating with those with mental health concerns to get the information necessary to be positive and helpful advocates for their wellbeing.

Clinical Documentation and Medical Necessity

Fridays, April 26th & November 1st | 11-12:00pm | Cost $10

Documentation of the vital work helpers do with individuals with mental health concerns is necessary and important. Good documentation helps us keep track of movement in the treatment process as well as communicating to others progress individuals have made over time. This presentation will focus on the golden thread of documentation to clearly connect client needs to provider interventions. It will also address how to use language to show the work we do is medically necessary and helpful to the clients we serve.

Treatment Resources and Coordinating with the Treatment Team and Multiple Systems

Fridays, May 24th & November 22nd | 11-12:00pm | Cost $10

People with mental health concerns have a variety of treatment options and may be involved in multiple systems due to their mental health concerns. This presentation will review various treatment options so helping professionals can be a positive resource to ensure clients have the help they need without overwhelming individuals with too many services. We will also address strategies for effectively coordinating with systems such as medical, mental health, court, and children’s services for clients who are involved with multiple systems for their multiple needs.

Vicarious Trauma and Self-Care

Fridays, June 28th & December 20th | 11-12:00pm | Cost $10

As helping professionals, we often place the wellbeing of others ahead of our own wellbeing. However, far too often we do not consider the personal cost of pushing ourselves to be as helpful as possible for clients living with the effects of trauma and serious mental health issues. In this presentation attendees will learn about the concepts of: compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization and burn-out. Attendees will gain an understanding of wellness strategies and have an opportunity to practice wellness strategies.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Friday, January 26th | 9-12:15pm | 3 CEUs | Cost $60

Emotional dysregulation is a common problem for people with mental health challenges. We often think of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for those with personality disorders but DBT has been shown to be an effective intervention for anyone with emotional dysregulation. This training will focus on helping participants understand what dialectics are, learn about the framework of DBT, and gain a beginning understanding of the DBT skills. This training is a general overview of DBT for those who want a beginning understanding of DBT or as a review for those with previous DBT training.

Addressing Suicidal Ideation and Self-Injury

Friday, April 5th | 9-12:15pm | 3 CEUs | Cost $60

Suicidal ideation and self-injury can be overwhelming topics to address for those in the helping professions. While these behaviors can look similar there are often very different motivations and intervention strategies for these concerning actions. This training will highlight the differences between these two mental health concerns and identify warning signs, assessment strategies, and effective intervention strategies helping professionals can use to maximize client safety.

Effectively Working with the LGBTQ Population

The LGBTQ population is becoming more visible but many people have questions about LGBTQ people. This presentation will help attendees build cultural awareness and humility by understanding terminology, being exposed to LGBTQ culture, and assessing personal attitudes and how these attitudes impact work with this population. Attendees will gain awareness and insight into special issues specific to the LGBTQ population and appropriate treatment interventions, including creating a safe therapeutic space. No questions are off limits in this enlightening and eye-opening presentation.

Dual-Diagnosis: An Overview

Co-occurring disorders, also known as dual-diagnosis, means having more than one behavioral health disorder.  Dual-diagnosis of substance use disorders and other psychiatric disorders is common. This high rate of co-occurrence supports a comprehensive approach for the identification and treatment of each disorder concurrently.  This training provides an overview of Anxiety, Mood, Psychotic, Trauma, and Substance Use Disorders from the Dual Diagnosis perspective, in addition to clinical treatment considerations. 

Motivational Interviewing

Change is hard. Many of the people who need help are reluctant to change due to negative experiences with being told what to do and not being heard. Motivational Interviewing provides an alternative way to interacting with clients. This collaborative, person centered approach intended to increase internal motivation while exploring and resolving ambivalence. This training will review the principles of Motivational Interviewing and the stages of change while also providing practical strategies for promoting movement in the stages of change.

Supervision in the Helping Profession

Supervisors in the helping professions wear many hats. This training will provide an overview of the various responsibilities for supervisors including assessment, setting supervision goals, monitoring, remediation, and evaluation of supervisees. We will also review professional boundaries and decision making from the supervisory standpoint.

Ethics in the Helping Profession

Ethical practice is the responsibility of all who work in the helping professions. This training will review ethical principles as well as ethical decision-making processes. This knowledge will then be used to view and discuss video clips of a therapist facing ethical dilemma in his practice. Participants will analyze these examples and discuss what they see and how they would respond.
